About Us

This project has been many years in the making and we're excited to finally bring Makai Mats to life! Inspired by our time in Hawaii on the island of Maui, not only does the brand represent a Hawaiian word meaning "toward the water" but the concept is an attempt to harness the energy and serenity that the Islands provide with images of iconic and memorable places. Having traveled to many different places around the world; the feeling of pure happiness that comes with experiencing a foreign location is another aspect we want to highlight. 

So as you begin your practice, by stepping onto your mat you're stepping back in to a place mentally and spiritually that will help achieve your intention you set. This does not necessarily have to be location based.

Understanding that everyone has something that inspires them whether its a: location, favorite picture, pet, family or friend, abstract image, etc. we encourage every customer to create a CUSTOM MAT that provides the most personal inspiration. We will work directly with you to create a high quality print on a high quality performing mat. With our technology we can turn almost any picture into a yoga mat. 

There are a lot of talented photographers and artist that have a unique ability to perfectly capture a setting. We want to use this platform to highlight their talents and you might find the perfect mat for you through our Artist Collection series.
